Hotel Rokin is a good choice for those whose main concern when choosing an Amsterdam hotel is location, location, location. Hotel Rokin has a great central location— it’s less than ten minutes’ walking distance from Centraal Station (making it super convenient to get to and from the airport), about 5 minutes to the famous Dam Square, and only a few minutes from Amsterdam’s Red Light District. The tram stops less than 200 meters from the front door of the hotel, and is served by six tram lines— it’s easy to get anywhere within Amsterdam in very little time.
However, for those looking for the very best value in Amsterdam hotels, you probably won’t find it at the Hotel Rokin.
While not a bad hotel, and at about 150€ per night not a terribly expensive one, for many guests the Hotel Rokin doesn’t live up to their expectations. The hotel itself is well-kept and clean, and the daily breakfast included in the price of the room is probably above-average for similarly priced Amsterdam hotels. However, for the price there are many other hotels in Amsterdam that offer a better value— in general, the rooms seems to be priced about 20€ higher than they should be.
The rooms themselves are clean but quite small (too small for the price, even for Amsterdam), and like most Amsterdam hotels the bathrooms are miniscule, with no bathtub or even a shower stall. There’s also no bar, no lounge or sitting room, and no lift to the to top floor. As far as three-star hotels go, Hotel Rokin is rather light on facilities.
If all you care about is a central location and a quick bite to eat in the morning before setting out to sightsee, the Hotel Rokin would be a great choice. However, if what you want is a great value, there are equivalent hotels in Amsterdam for cheaper, and much nicer hotels for just a little more.
