There are plenty of great hotels in Amsterdam, and if you want even a bit of luxury (or extra space) you generally have to pay more than you might like in order to get one. Unfortunately, visitors tend to find that luxury Amsterdam hotels offer less luxury for the price than other cities and less space.
The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky isn’t one of these hotels. While not a true “luxury” hotel, the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is one of the better values for your money in Amsterdam. At about 200 per room, it’s on the pricier side but the prices certainly aren’t the highest you’ll find in Amsterdam hotels. And here, visitors generally get a bit more for their money.
One thing that makes the Grand Hotel special is that it’s very homey almost like you could live there. Started as a coffeehouse in 1866, the hotel grew and grew, and is now a sprawling complex complete with restaurants, bars, gardens, and plenty of rooms and suites. Of the several restaurants and bars, the Golden Palm Bar is a favorite, probably because they offer a 50 percent off happy hour between 5 and 6 pm. And whether or not you’re staying in the hotel, you may want to try breakfast in the massive Winter Garden. It’s a hefty 22 per person, but may very well be the largest and most interesting breakfast buffet you’ve ever tried.
The rooms themselves come with pretty much everything a visitor need to make him or herself comfortable for a few days (or a few weeks). Big, comfy beds, mini-bar, and internet connection. Depending on which room you get, the bathroom can either be very generously sized, or quite small. It seems to depend on the luck of the draw, so keep this in mind when you make your reservation.
Of Amsterdam’s many great hotels, the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is popular for many reasons. It has a great central location, lots of on-site amenities, and offers great service. Far from a budget hotel, the Grand Hotel is still one of Amsterdam’s better values.
