Amsterdam Coffee Shops
Bluebird Coffeeshop
Bluebird Coffeeshop in Amsterdam is one of the more popular coffeeshops with long-time marijuana smokers. With its extensive and widely venerated marijuana menu, this is a place for people who really know their stuff— some of what sets Bluebird apart may be lost on first timers or amateur smokers.
Unlike a lot of the more popular Amsterdam coffeeshops, Bluebird is not a particularly cozy place to hang out. The coffeeshop itself is divided into three main sections. When you first come in, you enter a small coffee bar area populated only by a few stools. Upstairs you'll find the main space— to the left is an area with a few couches where you can sit and smoke what you buy at the dealer's counter in front. To the right is the restaurant and drink bar (of course, no alcohol is served here) with lots of great energy drinks, fresh squeezed orange juice, and wonderful hot chocolate. Like the coffee bar downstairs, the only seating here is a few stiff stools.
Bluebird tends to fill up quickly, and with the small amount of comfortable spaces, the few sofas in the coffeeshop fill up rather fast— it can be hard to find a spot here. Because of this, Bluebird shouldn't be high on the list of coffeeshops to visit for first timers. If you don't know or care what kind of product you're ordering, you may as well go to an Amsterdam coffeeshop with better ambiance— Bluebird is all about the marijuana, and they take it very seriously. The staff isn't particularly friendly (while they're not outright rude to customers, they can be a bit "short") and leaning against the menu books while waiting in line for the dealer can get you severely scolded.
In the end, Bluebird Coffeeshop is a must-see for experience smokers, but is probably best skipped by first-timers.
